Local City Bicycling Initiatives
The local 2011 MRT and MRT/ADT riverfront trail extensions and engineering studies will collectively make this the Year of the Iowa MRT!!! These trail extensions will:
- unite river communities!
- provide valuable additional immediate and future opportunities for local recreation!
- be integral to the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) that will extend from the headwaters in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico!
Buffalo: MRT (Mississippi River Trail)
The City of Buffalo energized its citizens to form a Mississippi River Trail Committee and then launched a public/private fund-raising campaign for engineering its seven miles of riverfront. The city is considering funding options to secure the $115,000 match needed for a $500,000 federal earmark for engineering by March. Two pancake breakfasts have been held to create awareness of the 10 mile trail from Utah St. to Wild Cat Den State Park.

This trail will connect the Muscatine trail to Buffalo. Another pancake breakfast will be held on March 5 at the Buffalo Community Center from 6:00 am to 12:00 am.
